Internship Option

We have recently introduced a for-credit internship course into the Master of International Business program that now enables students to incorporate a semester-long (3-4 month) paid internship into their degree path. Adding work integrated learning to your degree path brings value with skills that are highly sought after by employers.

Why choose an internship track?

Students will be provided with all of the requisite resources and training to compete for open positions; however it will be their responsibility to complete the search and secure a position.

Can I change which semester I do my internship in?

Students have the option of an internship in either the single or double degree programs. The internship course is offered in a different part of the program depending on the track. Unfortunately, you are not able to switch semesters once enrolled in a specific track.

Does my internship have to be in Canada?

No, students can source internships abroad, but they will have to be vetted to ensure compliance with all requisite insurance and employment policies.

I don’t have any prior professional experience, will there be support in helping me navigate the application process for the internship?

All students admitted into an internship track will be required to complete a series of onboarding activities related to Career Management. This includes an asynchronous Career Management Foundations course and engagement with their Career Coach to properly prepare.

What happens if I am admitted to an internship track but am unsuccessful in acquiring a position?

The program has been structured such that if students are unable to secure an internship position, they can still complete their degree requirements. The program team will work with students directly to develop a plan to completion.

I am an international student; will my study permit give me the rights to work in Canada?

Admission documents for students admitted into the internship track will confirm that the internship is a required part of the degree, thus enabling them to apply for a co-op visa, enabling them to work full-time during the internship period.
