MIB Internship for Credit Program
The Master of International Business (MIB) Internship for Credit offers employers access to talented, globally-minded students for 4-month, full-time, paid internships. Students come directly into the program from a business undergraduate degree, with previous internship experience. Students return to school after the internship and are supported throughout by the Smith Career Advancement Centre (CAC) and the MIB office.
Employer Responsibilities & Process
- Post roles anytime from September onwards via the Smith CAC (Quest platform)
- Peak posting periods:
- Winter Internships (Jan–May 2026): Post August–October, Offers accepted by Nov 15, 2025
- Summer Internships (May–Aug 2026): Post September–March, Offers accepted by Mar 30, 2026
- Internships must run for a minimum of 10 weeks, comply with local labour standards and be paid
Include the following in offer letters (copy to student and Jen McNeely, mcneelyj@queensu.ca):
- Candidate name & job ID/title
- Start/end dates
- Salary & benefits
- Location & work schedule
- Offer deadline & any changes to the job description
Upon student acceptance, you will receive the Experiential Learning Placement Agreement to formalize the internship for credit and confirm tax credit eligibility.
As an employer, you agree to:
- Compensate interns fairly ($25–$35/hr. typical).
- Provide training, mentorship, and a safe, inclusive work environment.
- Structure responsibilities in alignment with initial job posting.
- Evaluate intern performance mid-term and end-of-term (evaluation contributes to student grade).
- Communicate promptly any concerns or issues to both the student and MIB Office.

Tax Credit Eligibility
Ontario employers may qualify for the Co-operative Education Tax Credit. A confirmation letter verifying the student’s internship will be provided upon request.
