Confirm Eligibility

Applying to the Master of Finance – Toronto program is an exciting step toward advancing your career in finance. We recommend reviewing the admission requirements before you begin.

If you are unsure whether your academic background, quantitative experience, or professional profile meets the admission requirements, we encourage you to complete a complimentary Eligibility Check. This short assessment provides helpful guidance on your readiness and can give you confidence as you move into the full application process.

Prepare Your Documents

Your complete application will require the following:

  •  Resume: A current, detailed resume highlighting academic and professional experience.
  •  Cover letter: A one-page overview of your current responsibilities, professional achievements, reasons for applying, and career goals.
  •  Post-secondary transcripts: Scanned copies from all undergraduate institutions attended. Unofficial transcripts are acceptable for the application stage. If admitted, official transcripts must be sent directly from the institution’s Registrar Office to the Smith Recruitment and Admissions team.
  •  Evidence of quantitative proficiency: Demonstrated through a B grade or higher in university‑level quantitative courses, a satisfactory GMAT or GRE score, or relevant professional experience.
  •  Evidence of prerequisite knowledge in finance and accounting: Demonstrated through a B or higher in university‑level accounting and finance courses, CFA Level 1 (or higher), or relevant professional experience.
  •  References: Names and email addresses for your two professional referees; they will receive an automatic request from the application portal to submit references digitally.
  •  English language proficiency results (if applicable)

Please note: If CFA Level 1, GMAT, or equivalent testing is required for your file, it does not need to be completed before beginning your application. GMAT Program Code: Q21‑QZ‑57.

Create Account & Apply

You will begin your formal application by creating an account in our secure online portal. Choose 'Create an Account' to get started with your profile. You can then choose the program you're applying to and work through the components of the application, saving your progress as you go.

Once you’ve reviewed the admissions criteria and understand the required documentation, you’re ready to start your application.

Step 4

Interview

Once your file is complete, you may be invited to a 30‑minute virtual interview with a member of the program team. You will be contacted directly to schedule this at a convenient time.
