From international recognition for Smith programs and faculty, to the launch of a new master’s degree for the high-tech age and a commitment to giving under-represented students a chance to succeed, the past year at Smith has been one of accomplishment and looking forward to the future of business education. Welcoming our new dean

Leading in digital transformation

Smith’s new Master of Digital Product Management will close a critical global leadership gap and help businesses better capitalize on digital transformation opportunities.

A No. 1 degree in Canada

Our Master of International Business secured a top spot in the 2021 Financial Times ranking of global master in management programs, including a No. 1 ranking in Canada.

Expanding EDII financial aid

In support of Smith’s ongoing commitment to improving access to business education for under-represented communities, three new undergraduate admissions awards were established in 2021.

Working with Indigenous communities

A partnership through Smith’s Centre for Entrepreneurship, Innovation & Social Impact is bringing business, entrepreneurship and management training to six Indigenous communities in B.C.

Professors win prestigious award

Last fall, two Smith faculty members who teach in the Commerce program were recognized by the Aspen Institute Business & Society Program’s Ideas Worth Teaching Awards.

MBAs are top 100 in the world

Three MBA programs were recognized for excellence in the annual Financial Times rankings. That included the full-time MBA, which was No. 1 in Canada for overall satisfaction with the program.

Supporting Indigenous and Black students

In March 2022, two new scholarships were created at Smith to help make business education more accessible to students from two equity-deserving groups.

A new partner in Africa

A partnership with the Pan-Atlantic University in Nigeria means students in Smith’s MBA and Master of International Business programs can pursue exchange opportunities at Lagos Business School.

Charting Canada’s sustainable future

Moving into a sustainable future will take time, effort and expertise. One of the organizations working to make it happen in Canada is the Institute for Sustainable Finance housed at Smith.

Helping entrepreneurs succeed

Canada’s economy is built on small businesses and a strong entrepreneurial spirit. But growing a new business is never easy, which is why Smith is working to help startups thrive.

Growing our faculty expertise

Smith added several new faculty in the past year, with expertise in accounting, analytics, strategy, business economics and equity and inclusion, as well as a diverse range of research interests.
