Posted on November 5, 2025
Hong Kong, China — Smith School of Business and the School of Business and Management of The Hong Kong University of Science & Technology (HKUST Business School) are excited to announce a new double-degree pathway for students at both institutions to help build their knowledge and expertise while gaining insights into another region of the world.
Students in the 24-month double-degree stream of Smith’s Master of International Business program will now have the opportunity to spend their second year of study in Hong Kong, earning a master’s degree from HKUST Business School. Conversely, students from HKUST Business School will be welcomed to Smith’s campus in Kingston, Canada.
“With access to more than 130 partner schools across the globe, our students don’t just study the world — they experience it firsthand and gain the perspective to lead wherever they go,” says Lynnette Purda, Interim Dean, Smith School of Business. “We’re thrilled to continue to build on these opportunities with the addition of the MIB’s first double-degree offering in Asia.”
Students from both schools will benefit from gaining a solid foundational understanding of international business alongside specialized knowledge in either accounting, business analytics, economics, finance, global operations, information systems management, international management, or marketing. They will also work with international peer teams and faculty advisors and gain access to the networks and career resources available at both schools. Upon successful completion, students will earn a Master of International Business degree from Queen’s University and a master’s degree in the chosen specialized subject from HKUST.
“Our collaboration with Smith School of Business is a testament to our shared commitment to nurturing global business talent,” says Prof. Yike Guo, Provost of HKUST. “Through the double-degree and exchange opportunities, we are equipping our students to thrive in today’s complex international business landscape. We also look forward to extending this partnership beyond the HKUST Business School, creating even broader opportunities for collaboration across HKUST.”
Smith and HKUST Business School have enjoyed a successful undergraduate exchange partnership since 2001, which more than 225 students have benefited from. The double-degree program with Smith is one of HKUST’s key initiatives to expand its academic partnerships in Canada. The first students to participate in this new double-degree pathway will be welcomed by both schools in 2026.
