QSB Visionary Donor Donald Sobey named to Order of Canada

On Dec. 30, Governor General David Johnston announced that Donald Sobey, BCom’57, has been appointed a Member of the Order of Canada in recognition of his contributions as a philanthropist and entrepreneur, notably for founding one of Canada’s leading awards for young artists.

The Chairman Emeritus of Empire Company Ltd. has been a visionary donor and longtime supporter of Queen’s School of Business, as the founder of the D&R Sobey Atlantic Scholarship Fund, and supporter of numerous other initiatives, including the Donald R. Sobey Professorship in International Business. He is also a long-standing member of the School’s Advisory Board.
