Full Bio

Dr. Shamel Addas is an Associate Professor & Distinguished Research Fellow of Digital Technology at Smith School of Business. Prior to joining Smith in 2016, he was Assistant Professor of IS at IESEG School of Management in France.

Shamel’s research examines the impact of information technology use on individuals and groups in work-related and health care settings. He is especially interested in the problematic and controversial aspects of IT use such as how it interrupts work and affects work performance. He also studies how the use of different healthcare information technologies affect patients' quality of care and behavioral and clinical outcomes.

Dr. Addas’ research has been published in top-tier journals such as MIS QuarterlyMIT Sloan Management Review, Journal of Management Information SystemsInformation Systems JournalJournal of the Association for Information Systems, and others. He has also presented his work at various academic conferences, including the Academy of ManagementICISAMCISHICSS, and ASAC. Shamel has won several teaching and research awards, including a 2010 Best Paper Award.

Dr. Addas completed his PhD at McGill University in 2013. He also holds an MBA from the John Molson School of Business and a BSc. in Mechanical Engineering from the American University in Cairo. Prior to joining academia, he held various industry positions such as Director of Production, Consultant, Customer Support Manager, Operations Analyst, and Production Planning Engineer.
