Term Adjunct Position

Term Adjunct – MFIT 841 Digital Capital Markets

A Term Adjunct position is open at the Smith School of Business for an instructor to teach at our Toronto location, in a lecture-style graduate course in the Master of Financial Innovation and Technology (MFIT) program. The position is to teach one (1) section of the Digital Capital Markets course, MFIT 841, which is taught during the spring term. Teaching the Digital Capital Markets course will generally include teaching 3.5 hours per section organized as eight (8) 3.5-hour sessions. The successful applicant will be required to teach 100% of one (1) section of MFIT 841 with an anticipated enrollment of 46 students.

MFIT Program Objectives

Objective One

Graduates of this program will understand the technical principles that underlie machine learning and modern financial innovation technologies and possess a practical and theoretical understanding in the area of finance.

Objective Two

Students will build an understanding of the key elements of a high-performance team, and what leads to team effectiveness

Objective Three

Students will understand how finance has changed and is changing, the skills required to be successful and what the future may bring, linking traditional finance with the advances of the digital economy.

 

 

Qualifications

Qualifications include: a Master’s degree or Ph.D., several years of familiarity and experience in financial technology innovation (from ideation to market execution), and experience teaching university courses.

In this course, you will learn how technology has changed financial markets and how institutions function. You will learn key concepts for evaluating electronic market quality like liquidity and price discovery. You will also learn how trading algorithms work, how machine learning and big data are being used, and about innovations like high frequency trading and dark markets. All of these aspects are changing the skills required to be successful in digital capital markets. We will also cover how trading, clearing and settlement has changed and is changing, the skills required to be successful and what the future may bring.

Session 2 – May 1, 6:00pm – 9:30pm at SmithToronto

Session 3 – May 8, 6:00pm – 9:30pm at SmithToronto

Session 4 – May 15, 6:00pm – 9:30pm at SmithToronto

Session 5 – May 22, 6:00pm – 9:30pm at SmithToronto

Session 6 – May 27, 1:00pm – 4:30pm in Kingston during in-person session

Session 7 – May 28, 1:00pm – 4:30pm in Kingston during in-person session

Session 8 - May 29, 1:00pm – 4:30pm in Kingston during in-person session

 

*Preference for the delivery of this course is for the above planned schedule. A modified delivery schedule may be possible.

Compensation

Smith offers a competitive salary package. The minimum starting salary for a term adjunct teaching one section of this half credit course in our graduate programs is $18353.77, which excludes vacation pay and lieu of benefits pay.
