CORPORATE HACKATHON (MMIE Program)

CORPORATE HACKATHON (MMIE Program)

A Workshop Facilitator position is open at the Smith School of Business to facilitate the Corporate Hackathon workshop in our Master of Innovation and Entrepreneurship (MMIE) program. This workshop takes place in the fall term and is set for Saturday, December 7, 2024 in Kingston.

Qualifications

Preferred qualifications include a Master’s degree or Ph.D., and familiarity and professional experience in facilitating similar workshops and/or teaching university courses.

The course is described as follows:

This workshop offers an immersive, hands-on experience in corporate innovation through a corporate hackathon. Participants will engage with a real-world corporate innovation problem provided by a partner company, working collaboratively in teams to develop innovative solutions within a focused timeframe.

The session begins with the introduction of a case study, serving as the foundation for the hackathon. Teams will engage in structured discussions and facilitated brainstorming sessions, applying critical thinking and innovation principles to explore and refine their solutions. Facilitators will guide the teams throughout the process, offering insights and feedback to support solution development.

Participants will prototype their ideas, addressing both the technical and business aspects of their solutions. The hackathon simulates the pressures of real-world corporate innovation, with continuous feedback from facilitators to ensure the solutions are viable and ready for presentation.

The event concludes with team pitches, where participants present their solutions to a panel of corporate representatives. This stage provides an opportunity to showcase their work and receive valuable feedback from industry experts. The workshop emphasizes the development of problem-solving, teamwork, and pitching skills in a dynamic, fast-paced environment that mirrors the challenges of corporate innovation.
