COMM 395 - Digital Strategy and Transformation

A term adjunct position is open at the Smith School of Business for an instructor to teach at our main campus in Kingston, in a lecture-style undergraduate course in the Commerce program. The position is to teach Digital Strategy & Transformation – Comm 395 in the fall term. Teaching one (1) section of Comm 395 will generally entail teaching twenty-four “one-and-a-half hour” sessions from September to December 2026. The successful applicant will be required to teach 100% of one or more sections of COMM 395, with a maximum enrollment of 55 students.

COMM 395 – Digital Strategy & Transformation

The course is described as follows:

The objective of this course is to help students understand critical management concepts and frameworks related to digital business strategy, innovation, and transformation. As organizations move toward a digital reality (more natural and intuitive ways for technology to better organizations, individuals and society), creation of new business models and approaches are essential. This course will examine how companies such as Uber and NetFlix are disrupting existing business models and ushering in unprecedented convergence of people, business and things. For many organizations, "going digital" is imperative to long-term viability and the need to acquire and develop digital capabilities is essential. This course will give students knowledge and frameworks related to digital transformation, systems thinking and digital leadership as well as an understanding of movements in the technology industry that are influencing change toward a more digital approach to business.

The open section for COMM 395 has been scheduled in the Fall term as follows:

Section 001 - Fall 2026 (schedule TBA) 

Qualifications

Qualifications include a Master’s degree or PhD; several years of related experience; and experience teaching university courses. 

Compensation

The salary for a term adjunct teaching one section of a course in our Commerce program is $13,856 (excluding vacation pay). This salary is pro-rated based on course credit.

Vaccination Requirements

Prior to May 1, 2022, the University required all students, faculty, staff, and visitors (including contractors) to declare their COVID-19 vaccination status and provide proof that they were fully vaccinated or had an approved accommodation to engage in in-person University activities. These requirements were suspended effective May 1, 2022, but the University may reinstate them at any point.
