Term Adjunct

COMM 381 - Business Law I

A term adjunct position is open at the Smith School of Business for an instructor to teach at our main campus in Kingston, in a lecture-style undergraduate course in the Commerce program. The position is to teach Business Law I – Comm 381 in the fall term. There are two sections of this course available. Teaching one (1) section of Comm 381 will generally include teaching twenty-four “one-and-a-half hour” sessions from September to December 2026. The successful applicant(s) will be required to teach 100% of one or more sections of COMM 381 with a maximum enrollment of 55 students.

COMM 381 – Business Law I

The course is described as follows: Since legal considerations enter into nearly all business transactions and influence most important managerial decisions, owners and managers of business firms make their economic choices and take actions within the general framework of law and jurisprudence. While government and business exert a powerful influence on each other, the judge-made common law of contract is the basic law governing not only business activities but dealings between persons in society. This course will explore the Canadian legal infrastructure and context, and the laws of tort and contract - the two most important private law doctrines. Students will not only learn a cursory understanding of the law, but also a framework for solving legal problems as business people or professionals. This course is one of the Chartered Professional Accounting (CPA) requirements.

The open section(s) for COMM 381 has been scheduled as follows:

Section 003 Fall
Section 004 Fall
(please indicate the number of sections you would like to be considered for in your cover letter)
