COMM 370 - Business Communication in North America
A term adjunct position is open at the Smith School of Business for an instructor to teach at our main campus in Kingston, in a lecture-style undergraduate course in the Commerce program. The position is to teach Business Communication in North America – Comm 370 in the fall term. Teaching one (1) section of Comm 370 will generally include teaching twenty-four “one-and-a-half hour” sessions from September to December 2026. The successful applicant(s) will be required to teach 100% of one or more sections of COMM 370 with a maximum enrollment of 89 students.
COMM 370 – Business Communication in North America
The course emphasizes the norms for written and oral communication skills required for success in a North American business environment. Discussion of theoretical readings is framed by frequent cross-cultural comparison and team-based work to enhance learning. The course also uses an applied methodology wherever possible to help students practice and adapt their skills to the business culture in North America. In addition, students are introduced to North American models of learning such as formative assessment, peer review, and reflective practice.
This course is restricted to international exchange students who do not speak English as their first language. Students eligible for this course must have either attended a university where the primary language of instruction was not English, must speak English as a foreign language, or must have presented a TOEFL score for admission to Queen's University.

Qualifications
Qualifications include a Master’s degree or PhD; several years of related experience; and experience teaching university courses.
Compensation
The salary for a term adjunct teaching one section of a course in our Commerce program is $13,856 (excluding vacation pay). This salary is pro-rated based on course credit.
Vaccination Requirements
Prior to May 1, 2022, the University required all students, faculty, staff, and visitors (including contractors) to declare their COVID-19 vaccination status and provide proof that they were fully vaccinated or had an approved accommodation to engage in in-person University activities. These requirements were suspended effective May 1, 2022, but the University may reinstate them at any point.
