Call for Project Partners
The Volunteer Outreach Project is an opportunity for non-profits, charities, and social enterprises to work with student leaders who are passionate about making a change and are ready to tackle challenging issues. Students will deliver 30-hours of volunteer service towards a social impact project to further your organizational mission.
Process & Timeline
Volunteer Outreach projects can be offered at any time throughout the year. For more information, prospective partners can reach out to csi@queensu.ca.
Step 1Complete a project proposal
- Interested organizations are asked to submit an online project proposal.
Project is promoted to students
- Your project will be promoted to all students at Smith currently completing the Certificate in Social Impact.
Students express their interest
- Interested students will reach out directly to partner organization to express their interest in completing the proposed project.
Select the student(s) you wish to work with
- The partner organization will interview & select the student(s) they wish to work with on the proposed project.
Agree to a project plan
- The partner organization and student(s) will agree to term on a project plan – including: timelines, deliverables, work terms, etc.
- The project plan will be submitted to the Centre for Entrepreneurship, Innovation & Social Impact for approval.
Project execution
- The student(s) will complete the deliverables outlined in the project plan.
- The Centre for Entrepreneurship, Innovation & Social Impact will connect with the partner organization and student(s) at the completion of the project to review the project deliverables and impact.

Partner Requirements
- The partner organization’s key activities must focus on one or more of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
- The partner organization must assign a dedicated person to liaise with the student(s) and guide project execution.
- The project must amount to a minimum of 30 hours of work for the participating student.
- The partner organization must be prepared to determine a project plan (timelines, deliverables, work terms, etc.). The Centre for Entrepreneurship, Innovation & Social Impact remains a 3rd partner until the completion of the project.
