Kingston, Ont. – Four Smith alumni have been selected to take part in a prestigious annual leadership program run by Women in Capital Markets (WCM). The four are among 36 women chosen for the 2020 Emerging Leaders Award Program, an eight-month initiative designed to support the professional development and retention of mid-career women with five to 10 years of capital markets experience.

The four Smith alumni are:

Jenna Dicks, BCom’12, GDA’12, associate director, Scotiabank Global Banking Markets
Brittany Owens, BCom’08, MFin’20, associate director, Scotiabank Global Banking Markets
Christiane (Tia) Peric, BCom’15, Artsci’15, director, debt capital markets, global investment banking, CIBC Capital Markets
Farnaz Shahed, MBA’09, vice-president, institutional derivative solutions, RBC Capital Markets

Also named among the 36 is Queen’s University graduate Lauren Reid (Artsci’12), vice-president, credit capital markets, National Bank of Canada.

“I am delighted to see Smith and Queen’s alumni so well represented in this significant program,” says Brenda Brouwer, Dean, Smith School of Business. “It is critical to see women stepping up to lead in areas where they have been underrepresented in the past. Programs that help to accelerate change by giving women the tools they need to move forward are vitally important. Congratulations to all of these talented women. We are fortunate to have them in our community.”

The Emerging Leaders Award Program provides coaching, career planning, visibility and networking. As one of WCM’s flagship programs, it has accelerated the careers of more than 152 women in Canada since it began in 2014.

WCM is a not-for-profit that aims to amplify diverse talent and create change at an industry level through advocacy, research programming and recruitment. The organization has 3,500 members as well as numerous partner organizations. The Emerging Leaders Award Program is delivered by WCM’s coaching partner, Felix Global Corp.
