Smith alumni named among Canada’s Most Powerful Women

Toronto, Ont. – Three Smith alumni were named to The Women’s Executive Network’s (WXN) annual list of Canada’s Most Powerful Women: Top 100. The list includes women who are proven achievers and strong contributors to their organizations and communities.

Monika FederauMBA’88, received the HSBC Corporate Executive Award, given to women who hold senior positions in Canadian companies, pension funds and co-operatives. Monika is senior vice-president and chief strategy officer at Canada’s largest property and casualty insurer, Intact Financial Company, where she leads the development and execution of the corporate strategy.

Jessica Lui, BCom’14, received the KPMG Future Leaders Award, given to women under the age of 30 who have already distinguished themselves in their careers. Jessica is the founder of Global Professionals Practicum, a youth-led social enterprise dedicated to investing in young adults pursuing STEM careers in underserved communities.

Patricia McLeod, EMBA’11, received the Intact Professional Award, given to female professionals who hold leadership positions within their organizations. Patricia is a lawyer and corporate director, currently serving as the board chair of Calgary Co-op, and a board director of Canadian North, Air Inuit, the Beverage Container Management Board and Alberta Innovates.

Canada’s Most Powerful Women: Top 100 was created to recognize the incredible accomplishments of women, develop a community of support, and increase the visibility of strong leaders in order to inspire future generations. The 2019 Awards Gala was hosted Nov. 21 in Toronto.
