Toronto, Ont. – Four Smith alumni were recognized last week at an event celebrating young Canadian business leaders. The four are among Canada’s Top 40 Under 40 for 2019. They are:

• Michele Romanow, Sc’07, MBA’08, a tech titan and serial entrepreneur who started five companies before her 33rd birthday. Michele is co-founder and president of Clearbanc, which gave entrepreneurs more than $150 million in funding this year. She previously co-founded SnapSaves, which was acquired by American tech giant, Groupon in 2014. She is also well known as one of the “Dragons” on the CBC show Dragons’ Den.

• Mustafa Humayun, BCom’07, a partner at Sagard Holdings and the portfolio manager of its private credit business. Prior to this role, he led the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board’s energy credit team in North America as well as its Latin American credit investment platform.

• Jeff Gallant, BCom’11 and Kyle MacDonald, BCom’11, GDA’11, the co-founders of Capitalize for Kids (“C4K”), an organization striving to make Canada’s mental health system for youth the most efficient in the world. The pair are also portfolio managers with Gallant MacDonald, a specialized family wealth practice at CIBC Private Wealth Management.

Canada’s Top 40 Under 40 was founded in 1995 to identify outstanding young achievers in Canadian business. Honourees are selected by an advisory board of business executives. The 2019 Top 40 Under 40 Awards Gala was hosted Nov. 6 by Caldwell Partners and MNP at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre.
