Kingston, ON — Alumni who attend this year’s Smith Homecoming Alumni Brunch will find something special “pinned” to their name tags at the registration desk.

The Development and Alumni Relations team at Smith will be launching a line of reunion lapel pins, an initiative they hope will help further facilitate alumni connections, build on the school’s alumni community, and spread the Smith brand around the globe.

“Our hope is that it will become a tradition, that alumni will come back for them each year and wear them with pride beyond Homecoming weekend and into the business world,” says Tyler Forkes, Director of Alumni Engagement.

Exclusive to Smith Homecoming, the line of lapel pins features four colours: pewter to represent alumni of any graduating year, bronze for 10-year alumni, silver for 25-year alumni, and gold for those in the Tricolour Guard (50-year alumni and above).

“I’m not aware of any other business schools that are doing it,” Forkes adds.

To date, over 400 Smith alumni, many representing Commerce and MBA class reunions, have registered for the Smith Homecoming Alumni Brunch on Oct. 14, which, in addition to the brunch itself, will feature remarks by the Dean and student leaders, tours of Goodes Hall, class photos, children’s face painting, and more. Festivities will run from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Top five things to do at Smith Homecoming:

1)     Take your photo in front of the Smith sign and tag #smithhoco.

2)     Pick up your Smith reunion lapel-pin.

3)     Take a student-led tour of Goodes Hall.

4)     Attend the Annual Commerce Homecoming Event or the MBA Homecoming Mixer on Friday night.

5)     Participate in class reunion and class giving activities.
