I came to the Full-time MBA at Smith School of Business because ...

I wanted to obtain my MBA at a top-tier Canadian business school. In all honesty, it did not take very long for me to decide on Smith. Since the day of my initial application, I felt that the administration, faculty, and alumni cared about my journey as much as I did. Pursuing an MBA is making a lifelong investment in yourself (and it is not a small investment by any means). A decision of this magnitude inevitably requires you to put a lot of trust in the school. During my campus visit, I felt that trust right away and quickly became all-in on Smith! Beyond the personal connection, I gravitated towards Smith’s team-based approach to learning. Coming from a small town in Ontario, I appreciate the opportunity to work with a diverse and global team of talented individuals at one of the best business schools in Canada.

My advice to applicants? Be authentic, and do not sell yourself short. The fact that you are in a position to apply to MBA programs means that you likely are accomplished and have many great qualities – be proud of that. Do not get caught up trying to be “the perfect candidate” because, frankly, that does not exist. Be yourself but also be aware of the reasons why you are pursuing an MBA. The Smith MBA is not about showing off what you are already good at; the focus is all about self-improvement to empower you to reach your personal and professional goals. Above all else, always remember that life (and your MBA experience) is short and unpredictable, so enjoy the ride and trust the process!
