Full Bio

Ed Petersen is Emeritus Professor of Operations Research and Management Science.

He received his Ph.D. from Stanford, and has been a visiting Scholar at Berkeley and MIT, and a visiting Fellow at Cambridge.

His specialty consists of modelling and optimization methods.

His research has been primarily directed at the modelling and analysis of railway operations, having published on the modelling of lines, yards and integrating network equilibrium models, freight pricing and service quality, as well as scheduling models for train operations.

He has developed the railway costing and planning model QRAIL and co-authored the spreadsheet based Management Science software system, PROPS+.
