Teaching the Consumer Focused Marketing course will include teaching 12, 3-hour sessions in October to November as the required preparation and student assessments. The successful applicant will be required to teach 100% of one (1) section of MBAS 835 with an anticipated enrollment of approximately 25 students.

Qualifications

Qualifications include: A Master’s degree or PhD., several years of familiarity and experience in consumer behaviour and experience teaching similar university courses. Industry leadership in a related field is valued.

This course is a part of the Marketing and Sales specialization offered in the FTMBA program.  The foundation for success of any business in any industry is the ability to attract interest in, and ultimately sell, its products and services by delivering value to its customers.  This specialization teaches students the design and implementation of marketing and sales strategies and tactics based on the underpinnings of customer behaviour and value while providing hands-on opportunities to apply different sales and marketing tools to different business contexts.

The course is described as follows:

The course is designed to help you make better marketing decisions on the basis of a sound understanding of consumer behaviour. To do this, we will examine a variety of consumer research that is relevant to the major marketing decisions, including product, promotion, branding, and pricing decisions. Emphasis will be on understanding the relevant consumer research and then exploring the implications of this research for the marketing decision. We will also delve a little into the science of consumer research. Given marketers must make many decisions in the absence of relevant research, we will practice thinking like a scientist – in particular, learning to identify and question the causal assumptions that underlie our decisions. We will also explore the common errors that individuals, including marketing managers, make in their causal reasoning with the aim of being able to detect and avoid such errors in our own decision making. Typical classes will be half lecture and half group exercise, where students will apply the ideas to a managerial decision and present their work to the rest of the class.
