Term Adjunct Position

Term Adjunct – MDPM 830 – Data and Analytics Techniques

A Term Adjunct position is open at the Smith School of Business at our Toronto facility to teach Data and Analytics Techniques in our Master of Digital Product Management (MDPM) program.  This is a lecture-style graduate course, with hands-on application of learning, and takes place in the Winter 2025 semester.

The successful applicants will be required to teach 100% of one (1) section of Data and Analytics Techniques with an anticipated enrollment of approximately 50 students.

The course will begin in the 2025 winter term from March 21, 2025, to May 6, 2025.  The first two sessions will be delivered in person during the on-site session at Smith Toronto and the remaining two sessions will be delivered virtually.

Qualifications

Qualifications include: a Master’s degree or Ph.D., several years of expertise and professional experience leveraging systems thinking to lead digital business transformation and multi-stakeholder organizational change management in complex business environments.

The course is described as follows:

This course will expose students to the main kinds of analytical techniques that can help improve their capacity in making decisions based on data.  Such techniques are of two major kinds: predictive modeling techniques (which use data to predict what is otherwise unknown), and prescriptive modeling techniques (which use data, including the predictions made using data, to advise on the best course of action).  This course will give an introductory understanding of both kinds of techniques, including models for predicting quantities (such as regressions), models for predicting events (such as classification and regression tree, random forests, and the likes), decision tree and Monte Carlo simulation models, and optimization models (linear programming).  The focus will be made not on the technical issues, but rather on the conceptual understanding and the ability to implement these models using the examples of software and case studies provided during the course.

Compensation

Smith offers a competitive salary package. The salary for a term adjunct teaching one section of a 0.5 credit course in our graduate programs is $18,353.77, which excludes vacation pay and lieu of benefits pay.

Based on this course’s weight of 0.25 credits, the rate is $9,176.89, excluding vacation pay and lieu of benefits pay.
