Commerce students spend Reading Week helping kids in Peru

It may surprise some, but Commerce students don’t always spend Reading Week with their noses buried in books and laptops. Nor at beach parties. Nor on ski hills. This year, 24 Commerce students spent the annual study break learning about subjects not usually covered in the classroom.

They learned how to swing a hammer and slap on a coat of paint when they travelled to Peru to renovate community centres in Santa Cruz and La Campina. This is the second year that the Queen’s Commerce Initiative Abroad (QCIA) has organized a trip to the developing world to improve the lives of underprivileged children.
