Toronto Consulting Club rebranded - chapter launches in Ottawa

The Toronto Consulting Club has grown steadily since its launch in 2008 and has now expanded to Ottawa. To accommodate similar initiatives across the country, the club is being rebranded and its governance process taken to the national level under the leadership of Monica Porteanu, CQEMBA’ 08, the club’s founder and current president.

Its inaugural Ottawa event in February was organized by Amit Chandan, CQ-EMBA’10, and featured speakers from Deloitte sharing their experiences in the consulting field. Kevin Horseman, MBAst’01,Manager in the Human Capital practice, and Jennifer Peckham, BAH’97, Talent Advisor, led the interactive presentation that attracted 33 current students and alumni.

The Toronto chapter held a very successful event last October that brought together an attentive audience of MBA alumni for a panel discussion on consulting opportunities and challenges. The Deloitte-sponsored event featured a panel of seasoned professionals: Tim Christmann, MBA’96, and Gord Sanford, both Partners at Deloitte; Janet Rodgers, VP at the Cumis Group; and Ted Graham, MBA’96, Director of Client Services at Interbrand. QSB attendees and speakers included Elspeth Murray, MBA’87,ArtsSci’85,Associate Dean, MBA Programs; Brian Marchant, Director, Business Career Centre; and Shai Dubey, Law’94, Director of the Cornell-Queen’s Executive MBA program.

The Toronto chapter is headed by Stefanie Sigurdson, AMBA’05, who is planning an exciting series of speaker and networking events, including some targeted to entrepreneurial and freelance consultants. At press time, a March 25 event was to cover ‘An Insider’s View of a Management Consulting Career’ presented by McKinsey alumnus Sameh Elrefaei,MBAst’05.
