Professor Hugh Fullerton

Issue:

Prof. Hugh Fullerton The QSB family was saddened by the passing of Professor Emeritus Hugh Fullerton on Nov. 24 at Kingston General Hospital. He was 82.

Hugh joined the School in 1968 in the Operations Research area. He had a long and distinguished career as a researcher, teacher and administrator, including a three-year term as Chair of the MBA program from 1982 to 1985. He retired in 1991 but continued to teach occasional courses in the Commerce program. Hugh maintained his connections with QSB, frequently attending School events, and was a regular at the annual Homecoming Brunch.

He will be remembered fondly for his many talents. His luminous intelligence, patience, and outstanding teaching capabilities were as well known to Queen's students as they were to his many friends. His intellectual curiosity was insatiable, leading him to a BSc degree in Engineering Physics, a Master’s degree in Theoretical Physics, and a career in polymer chemistry followed by another career in consulting before he took up teaching at Queen's. Hugh was an avid photographer, a world traveller, and always a great friend to all who knew him.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Helen, daughters Linda, Nancy and Ellen, and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
