B. Glen Kelly (MBA, Artsci’85) passed away March 27 in Oshawa, ON, at the age of 50, from lung cancer. He is survived by his wife Florence (Marais), daughter Dominique (Nickie), parents Bryan and Barbara, and sisters Lynn (Robin) and Terry (Andy Leitch). Glen was a long-time local Esso retailer.

Lisa Rice Madan, BCom, MPA’89, was appointed Canada’s ambassador to Portugal in September 2018. Lisa joined External Affairs and International Trade Canada in 1992 and has since held numerous positions in international business development, trade policy and investment promotion for the government.

Rob Rankin, BCom, MBA, (CPA) has moved on from his position as CEO of Travelpro International Inc. and Holiday Group Inc. after the companies were sold to a New York private-equity group. He and wife Martha Kerr (ArtSci’83) relocated from Florida back to Toronto in September 2016.

Elspeth Murray, MBA’87, Artsci’85, received the Distinguished Service Award from Queen’s University. The professor of strategy and entrepreneurship came to Smith in 1996 and led the launch of the Centre for Business Venturing in 2003. She was recognized as an innovative thinker and pioneer who has created and prioritized entrepreneurial opportunities for students.

Ian Porter
Ian Porter, MBA’87, his wife Michelle and their children Sydney, Samantha and Christopher flew out of Vancouver in June for a 14-month trip around the world in their single engine plane. Daughters Sydney and Samantha—both pilots—will share flying duties with Ian as they travel 70,000 kilometres and visit over 50 countries as part of a $1-million fundraising expedition in support of SOS Children’s Villages. Kenneth Reucassel, BCom, died at home, peacefully and surrounded by his family on Nov. 5, aged 51. He is survived by his wife Jane; children Alexandra Gaye and Duncan; parents Janet Marsh and Ross Reucassel; and siblings Cathy Mackie, BA’86 (David), John (Kimbrough) and Kim Marsh Snare (Matt). Beloved by his family, he will be missed also by his colleagues and friends at The International Group and the boards of the Beaumaris Yacht Club, Caledon Ski Club, and Timothy Eaton Memorial Church.

Wendy Rintoul

Wendy Rintoul, BCom, has launched Welcome Home Transitions where she guides families and seniors to better retirement living decisions in Oakville, Burlington and Mississauga in Ontario. Her company is focused on senior housing and home-care search services as well as senior relocation management. Welcome Home Transitions was a finalist in the Halton Region small business startup competition in February. welcomehometransitions.ca

Scott and Charles Routledge
Bryan Routledge (BCom) is an Associate Professor of Finance at Carnegie Mellon University. He and his family – wife Marie, Scott (6), and Charles (1) – live in Pittsburgh, PA.

James Duncan Sergeant, BCom, died on April 6 in Yellowknife at age 55. After graduating, James began a career in accounting in Kingston. He then moved to the Canadian North where he worked in Yellowknife, Fort Chipewyan, Alta., Wrigley and Fort Simpson, NWT. He retired after working for the Northwest Territories government. James is survived by his wife, Kathleen; siblings Tom and Jessica; and his extended family.

Walter Speckert, MBA, died on July 24 at age 60 from cancer. After graduating, Walter spent 25 years at the Bank of Canada. He was a devoted volunteer with Cystic Fibrosis Canada. He is survived by his wife, Mary-Judith; his children, Tom and Kaitlyn; brother Erwin; and his extended family members.
