Dan Gallagher, EMBAA, has been promoted to COO of Mikisew Group of Companies. In this role, he works to increase awareness of Indigenous participation in the responsible development of Alberta’s resources, including the need to create opportunity, employment, and wealth for the Indigenous and local community.

Victoria Granova

Victoria Granova, AMBA, was recently honoured as one of Canadian Security magazine’s "Top 10 Under 40". Victoria is a senior information security consultant at CIBC responsible for major incident response. She is also the founder of the CyberToronto Conference, an annual conference for cybersecurity professionals

Beth (Corbett) Greene

Beth (Corbett) Greene, EMBAA, was among the recipients of the 2020 Women in Rail Awards presented by Railway Age last fall. Beth works at Thales Canada, where she is communications manager for Thales’ Urban Rail Signalling line worldwide. Education was among the award criteria, Beth says, “so I think it is very likely that the EMBA from Cornell and Queen’s played a part in my receiving this award.”

Julia Grein, GDB’19, CIB’19, Artsci’19, tells us she’s relocated to Edmonton and is working as a medical device clinical applications specialist at Synaptive Medical, which she first joined after completing her biochemistry degree at Queen’s and her GDB and CIB at Smith. Her current role sees her providing clinical support for the company’s surgical technologies inside and outside the operating room. Julia’s looking forward to connecting with Smith alumni in Edmonton and Western Canada.

Taleen Haneshian

Taleen Haneshian, AMBA, told us that she has been enjoying volunteering with the Foundation for Armenians in Science and Technology (FAST), a tech ecosystem in Armenia. Taleen has been learning from technology leaders and immersing herself in the local culture.

Oghenemine Jarikre, MMIE, has launched a startup, Redeem Clothing Recycling. People who donate used clothing can earn rewards with participating partners. The company won the Rise Up Pitch Competition in the startup category, she was nominated for an RBC Canadian Women Entrepreneur Award and was accepted to the Fashion Zone at Ryerson University. Oghenemine lives in Toronto and says she spent the past summer “checking out restaurants, working on my startup and enjoying the not-so-great weather.”

Umair Khan, MMA’19, has been promoted to lead financial analyst for Canada and the Dominican Republic at WestRock, an American packaging company. He’s in Mississauga, Ont.

Abigail Kingswood, BCom’19, and Divya Makkar, MEng’19, won $5,000 in the Summer Pitch Competition at the Dunin-Deshpande Queen’s Innovation Centre (DDQIC). Their company, ARKE News, positions itself as a news aggregator that measures the bias in news content, offering users access to real-time bias profiles personalized to their news consumption. “We were excited to be recognized by the DDQIC judging panel and will be utilizing the seed funding we received to bring our consumer-facing applications to life,” Abigail says.

Emily Liu, BCom, has been working for Deloitte in Toronto since graduating and was recently promoted to consultant in June. At Deloitte, she's led the Google marketing practice and also facilitated numerous paint nights for the analysts and consultants club and the women's club within her practice. She and Christine Chen, BCom’19, started Wandercolors, which sells digital artwork based on Emily and Christine’s exchange and travels. wandercolors.com
