Cassandra Uhrich, EMBA’22, and Mitchell Johnstone, MMAI’20, were married on June 25 in Canmore, Alta. They are living in Melbourne, Australia.

Donata Bauer
Donata Bauer, MIB’21, tells us that before taking on post-graduation career opportunities, she spent six months backpacking and travelling to 13 countries. She recently completed a summer VC internship program based out of Dubai. She has now joined Accenture in Toronto as a strategy analyst. “This marks my cross-continental move from Europe to Canada,” she says. “Exciting 2022 so far.”

Daniel Benjamin Jolic

Daniel Benjamin Jolic, BCom, says he’s been travelling around Yukon and northern B.C. while working as a transportation planner with the Yukon government. Daniel is returning to school this fall for his master in political management as the inaugural recipient of the Great Lakes Fishery Commission Scholarship in Political Management at Carleton University.

Christine Brooks-Cappadocia, MMIE’21, became the assistant vice-president of continuing studies at York University in September 2023. Christine has been at York since 2014 and has held several positions at the School of Continuing Studies.

Lev Eleazer Calang

Before becoming a program assistant in Smith’s Full-time MBA office, Lev Eleazer Calang, MMIE’21, spent years working in early childhood education in Canada. She’s channelled that experience and passion for creative storytelling with Ani, The Little Backyard Farmer. In this story, young readers meet Ani from the Philippines, who introduces them to all the possibilities of backyard farming and the importance of food sustainability and making healthy choices.

Cicely Dickson (Johnston)
Cicely Dickson (Johnston), EMBA’21, Artsci’12, and her husband, Graham Dickson, welcomed their daughter, Henrietta Hart Dickson, on March 18. Henrietta joins big brother, Charles, who is two-and-a-half years old.

Brooke Finlay, MMIE’21, Artsci’10, shares that her company and team at Navio Immigration in Whistler, B.C., were honoured with the 2023 Whistler Excellence Award for Innovative Business of the Year. “At Navio Immigration, we have redefined the immigration industry through our innovative ‘Done-with-You’ service,” Brooke writes. With the company’s Navio-Platform, she says, clients can prepare their immigration applications while still benefiting from the expertise of Navio’s immigration consultants.

After 15 years of working in the training industry and experiencing the detrimental effects of the pandemic on socializing and community, Michael Hamlin, MMIE’21, launched Calgary-based EverFlex in 2021. The company aims to connect people to fitness - and each other - through small group training sessions that are organized based on goals and abilities and uses technology to track and integrate health factor data. everflexfitness.com

Katie Heggtveit
Katie Heggtveit, MMIE’21, tells us she has been inducted into the Toronto Sport Hall of Honour in the Spirit of Sport — Diversity and Inclusion category. In 2017, Katie founded Bootcamps for Change, an organization that delivers fitness programs for youth experiencing homelessness. The organization’s #SweatierForTheBetter program also provides scholarships for shelter youth to become certified fitness instructors and connects them with local job and mentorship opportunities. Katie recently moved to Nashville to pursue her doctorate in Education Leadership and Policy at Vanderbilt University but continues to act as an advisor for the social enterprise.
