Jeff Carney
Jeff Carney (BCom), in May was named President and CEO of Toronto-based Mackenzie Investments, a leading investment management firm with $64.2 billion in assets under management (as of Apr. 30) and Co-President and CEO of IGM Financial Inc. A longtime member of QSB’s Advisory Board, Jeff and his wife Carolyn, BCom’86, look forward to spending more time in Toronto.

Christopher B. Carty, BCom, died on April 26, at his home in Montreal. He is survived by his children, Lucas, Cecil and Sydney, and their mother, Althea Macdonald; siblings Richard, BCom’86, (Crystal); Terence, BED’91; Anthony, BA’89, (Valérie); Anne, BA’92 and LLB’95, (Jean-Marc); and Shane, BA’97.

Elizabeth Christo (BCom) died April 19 in Simcoe, ON. She was 52. She had been a dedicated employee of the Multi Service Centre and Michael Bossy Group in Tillsonburg, ON. She is survived by her son Carl McIntosh, brothers Darren, Bob and Bill Christo, and her extended family.

Tony Bird (BCom) has been appointed Vice President, Real Estate Investments for Weloga Corporation, a Canadian real estate investment and asset management company with holdings in development land, office, hotel and mixed use properties in Québec and Ontario. Tony, Celia (BCom, Law’88), and their daughters Meredith and Emily live in Toronto.

Chris Whyte (MBA) is Senior Vice President, Lending, at D+H, based in Toronto. He is responsible for leading the company’s Canadian lending businesses, including collateral management solutions, Canadian mortgage technology and student lending.

Gord Kerr (BCom) is the 2009 recipient of the Nipissing University Alumni Association’s Achievement Award. He is Head of Marketing for Home Equity and Lending at RBC (Royal Bank) and the Director and founder of the Parent Involvement Centre, which provides teachers, principals and leaders of school volunteer programs with strategies and resources to engage parents and the community in education.

Stephanie (Harris) Lalonde (BCom, MPA’95) died April 20. She is survived by her husband Robi Lalonde, children Samuel, Emilie and Joseph, and mother Marlene Harris. After being a stay-at-home mom during her children’s early years, Stephanie re-entered the workforce and held numerous positions in the private and public sectors, most recently a 15-year career at the Department of Foreign Affairs. One of her proudest accomplishments was her completion of the Camino de Santiago de Compostela, a 780-km walk across the north of Spain, in 2011.

Janet Mann (MBA) has decided to retire in Oct. 2014 after 30 years as a senior public servant with the Government of Yukon. She will remain in Whitehorse and would love to share the beauty of the Yukon with any visiting classmates.

Janet Mann (MBA) received the Queen’s Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal in Dec. 2012 in recognition of her volunteer contributions to the community, notably her more than 25-year involvement with Girl Guides of Canada at both the local and national levels.
