Darren Ross Polasek, MBA, died on May 26, 2017 in hospice in Regina, SK at age 56. He is survived by his wife Annette; sons Andrew (April) and Ben; his mother Eunice; and sister Darcy. Darren spent 28 years working at IPSCO and six years as Chief Operating Officer at Kanuka Thuringer. He also volunteered for a number of organizations, including Scouts Canada, the Cuernavaca Project, the Knights of Columbus and ministries within Christ  the King Parish.

Alison Thompson

Alison Thompson, MBA’01, received the Centennial Leadership Award from the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta for her work spearheading the growth of geothermal energy in Canada and establishing an advocacy organization to remove industry roadblocks. She lives in Calgary.

at Mandalay Resources, a Canadian-based natural resources companywith mines in Australia and Sweden.

Allison Wolfe, BCom’01, was honoured in the Globe and Mail’s Best Executive Awards. Allison has spent the last 13 years with Oxford Properties Group and is currently CFO and global head of portfolio management. She was recognized for her commitment to finding the best workflow and tools for her team, including implementing the automation of key processes, introducing a cloud-based investment pipeline management tool and enhancing the company’s management reporting.

Shelley Legin (MBA) is now Vice President, Administration and Finance, at Vancouver Island University (VIU). Previously, she worked at Vancouver-based MNP, and also as an independent consultant in both postsecondary education and financial services. Her community work includes a number of board appointments, as well as volunteer roles in the performing arts sector. She has also delivered governance workshops for high-profile boards across Canada, and is in the final stages of completing her Certified Professional Accountant, Certified Management Accountant designation.

Omar A. Abdel-Hafez (BCom) married Kristen Joy Campolattaro at the Royal Ontario Museum in Toronto. Kristen and Omar met in New York City in their first jobs at Goldman Sachs and kept in touch over the years, reconnecting in 2008. They now reside in Greenwich Village, NY, and look forward to seeing old classmates whenever they might be in town for a visit.

Cyril Goddeeris (BCom) and his wife Erica are pleased to introduce to the Queen’s community their son, Colton James Goddeeris, born Mar. 27, 2013, who “is proud to wear his Queen’s School of Business bib,” Cyril reports.

Robert Wakulat (BCom) has started his own business law firm to provide legal services for individuals, community organizations and businesses interested in green energy and business sustainability projects. His firm focuses on feed-in-tariff (i.e. solar) installations, but he enjoys working on anything that will take Ontario towards a low-carbon, sustainable economy.
