Jackson, Rick

Associate Professor

Rick Jackson is an expert on negotiation, dispute resolution, labour relations and human resources management.  He has served as an arbitrator under the Ontario Labour Relations Act, Canada Labour Code, and Ontario Police Services Act, fact finder and mediator under the School Boards and Teachers Collective Bargaining Act, mediator-arbitrator under the Ontario Back to Schools Act (1998), and as an arbitrator and mediator in business disputes. He has served as a Vice Chair of the Ontario Public Service Grievance Settlement Board since 1998. He is a frequent guest speaker on negotiation, labour relations, arbitration issues, and dispute resolution. He is a graduate of the Royal Military College of Canada, and earned an MBA at Queen's University. Publications: Fact Finding under the School Boards and Teachers Collective Negotiations Act of Ontario; Conflict and Cooperation in Police Labour Relations; noted contributions to Canadian Labour Relations: Readings and Cases (1990), Labour Arbitration Yearbook, 1993 and 1997, Public Sector Collective Bargaining in Canada, 1995, and Union-Management Relations in Canada”, Gunderson, Ponak, and Tara, eds. (4th edition (2000) and 5th edition (2004).  Awards: Queen’s University Alumni Award for Excellent Teaching, Frank Knox Award for Excellence in Teaching, Commerce Society Teaching Excellence Award; five-time recipient of the Commerce '89 Professor-Student Life Award.  Professor Jackson formally retired in 2009, but continues to be active in teaching and executive education, and is a member of the School’s Academic Integrity Panel.
