Honorary degree recipient Dame Pamela Gordon Banks and her son Ron.

Dame Pamela Gordon Banks, EMBA’98, received an honorary degree at the May 24 convocation ceremony for the full-time and accelerated MBA Classes of 2013. Principal Daniel Woolf lauded her many accomplishments: Bermuda’s first woman Premier and youngest person to hold the position; an articulate voice for women, workers’ rights and racial desegregation, who also worked to strengthen economic development and international trade in her country; and a supporter of the Montpelier Foundation and other charitable organizations in Bermuda that seek to improve children’s health and education opportunities. Dame Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire, she was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II in recognition of her record of exceptional public service. A proud alumna of Queens, she currently serves on the Queen’s School of Business Global Council.

“Life is about choices, so choose well,” Dame Pamela said in her convocation address at Grant Hall. “Choose to minimize your regrets. Choose to create a legacy of honour and integrity that will make your family proud for generations to come.”
