Matt Hutcheon (BCom)
Matt Hutcheon (BCom) is the new CEO of the Greater Kingston Chamber of Commerce, charged with implementing a strategic plan for aggressive growth and increased visibility. The target is to increase the current membership of 860 local businesses employing roughly 20,000 people to a total of 1,500 members by 2016. Previously, he operated Vista Enterprises, a small consulting and tax business he launched the day he graduated from Queen’s.

Steve Lawrence (MBA) continues to live in Kingston, ON, and is currently a computer artist who has created many “infinitely large mathematical universes” within which he has found the most amazing fractals. From what Steve thinks are the best of the computer files, he produces incredibly detailed and colourful holographic prints and offers them for sale in various sizes. His largest gallery show to date was very well received last year at the Proof Studio Gallery in the Distillery District in Toronto.

Sylvie Levesque, BCom, was appointed chief marketing officer at Newstrike Brands in Toronto in February. Sylvie was previously the general manager for Canada at Treasury Wine Estates. She’s worked in the consumer packaged goods and alcohol beverages business in Canada and abroad for the past 25 years, including at Johnson & Johnson, Molson and Unilever. Newstrike Brands is the parent company of Up Cannabis. Sylvie and her family live in Toronto. They returned in late 2016 after living in Melbourne, Australia for a few years.

Andrew Long, BCom, and his family have moved to Whistler, B.C. Andrew continues as President of The Greatness Group, which offers scavenger hunts for corporate groups in cities and resorts worldwide.

Andrew Long (BCom) and his family have been traveling the world since September 2013, and will return to Toronto in August 2014. Andrew’s company, Scavenger Hunt Anywhere, recently broke the world record for the world’s largest corporate scavenger hunt.

Jamil Mawji, BCom, shares that the venture he co-founded in 2016, National Care Group (NCG), was recently ranked the third fastest-growing company in the U.K., as featured in The Sunday Times’ Virgin Atlantic Fast Track 100 league table. Jamil says NCG is a support-service provider for people with complex needs arising from learning disabilities, mental health and acquired brain injury.

Jamil Mawji, BCom, MIR'95, wrote to let us know that he’s been living in London for 15 years. Jamil said that after he exited his private-equity fund, he started to invest in the specialist-care sector in the United Kingdom with his business partner, founding a company, National Care Group, which has grown to be one of the largest adult specialist-care providers in the U.K.

David P. Carey, MBA, Sc’79, retired as SVP, Capital Markets, at ARC Resources in 2016 and recently joined the board of directors of Bonavista Energy. David and his wife, Kathryn, reside in Calgary. Their daughter, Alison, BA’12, is also in Calgary, while son Graeme, Sc’15, is pursuing his MSc at the University of Oslo in Norway.
