Mark Rechihi (BCom) shared in the reflected glory when his CEO brother Alex (Artsci’96) was named one of Canada’s “Top 40 Under 40” for 2008 (see the Globe’s Report on Business, May 6). Mark and Alex opened their first Extreme Pita location in Waterloo 11 years ago and now have 200 franchises across Canada and 30 in the States. In 2006, they created Extreme Brandz and opened a Mexican grill restaurant called Mucho Burrito.

Jason Balgopal (BCom) has taken a year-long secondment from his work as an Assistant Crown Attorney at the Scarborough Crown Attorney’s Office (where he has worked for the past ten years, appearing at all levels of the Ontario court system) to head up the comprehensive review of the Class Proceedings Act at the Law Commission of Ontario. Dave Walsh (BCom), CA, CPA, was a recipient of the ‘Forty Under 40’ award from the Ottawa Business Journal. He is a partner in Ernst & Young LLP and is proud to have achieved such a level of success with a great organization. Dave says that advising clients during the economic downturn has been a challenge, but he finds it very rewarding when he helps clients succeed through it all.

Victor Pakalnis (EMBA) is President and CEO of MIRARCO Mining Innovation, a mining research company based at Laurentian University in Sudbury, ON. Vic has worked for the Ministry of Labour, Falconbridge, and the former Inco, and has taught at Queen’s in the Department of Mining as the Kinross Professor in Mining and Sustainability.

Chris Asmis (BCom) and Stephanie (Shambleau) (BCom’95) welcomed their son Ryder Elliot on Nov. 17, a brother for big sister Sydney. The family resides in Greenwich, CT, where Chris is a Finance Director at PepsiCo.

Chris Asmis (BCom) and Stephanie (Shambleau) (BCom'95) welcomed their little American girl, Sydney Ella, on Aug. 20 in Stamford, CT, where they have resided for the last five years. Chris is a director of innovation and strategic planning at PepsiCo. Stephanie traded in her sales position at Time, Inc. for motherhood and is loving every minute!

Peng-Sang Cau, BCom, married Martin Smith, Sci’93, in September 2016 in the backyard of their Kingston home. The intimate ceremony was witnessed by 75 close friends and family, including Peng’s children, who served as maid of honour and best man. At the end of the night, the newlyweds took a brave plunge into their future by jumping into their backyard pond.

Paul Bozoki, BCom, became chief financial officer at Acasta Enterprises in Toronto in February. He has approximately 25 years of experience in finance, accounting and tax matters, including more than 10 years serving as chief financial officer of public companies listed on the TSX and TSXV. Acasta owns consumer-product companies Apollo Health and Beauty Care Inc.

Sean Cable, BCom’94, has been appointed chief accountant at PricewaterhouseCoopers. He leads PwC Canada’s accounting consulting services group, providing technical advice on complex accounting and financial reporting matters.
