Richard C.K. Cheung, BCom, has been a fan of racing and equine sports since his days at Queen’s. After years of working in different industries, six years ago Richard combined his business knowledge with his passion for horse racing, taking on the role of Executive Director, Customer and Marketing, with the Hong Kong Jockey Club. A not-for-profit organization that provides betting entertainment in the areas of racing, sports and lottery, the Club donates all its surplus funds to community and charitable projects.

Charles T. Kidd, EMBA, is enjoying the experience of yet another interesting culture by living in Japan. Charles is President, Resident Director of the Tokyo location of Sika Ltd. His career with the company has taken him from Canada to Egypt, to Singapore, to Indonesia and, now, to Japan.

Chris Gear, BCom, Law’98, was promoted to assistant general manager and chief legal officer of the Vancouver Canucks. Chris has spent the past 10 years on the organization’s executive team, having joined the NHL team first as general counsel. He is responsible for player contract negotiations, the club’s AHL affiliation with the Utica Comets and the team’s business operations.

Herbert B. Gibson notes that his MBA, PEng, BSc (Chem), plus 30 years’ experience in administration and management have all combined to help his clients achieve their goals. As an investment advisor, he believes education is paramount in providing sound investment advice, and so, since joining BMO Nesbitt Burns, Herb has successfully completed several credentials from the Canadian Securities Institute and the Canadian Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors. Outside the office, he’s been active in the community through coaching minor soccer and hockey teams. Herb is currently on the Board of Directors with the Grenadier Island Country Club, was elected to Queen’s University Council, and is Vice President of the Thousand Island Branch of Queen’s Alumni.

Ron Guidinger (EMBA) has embarked on a new career path as an Executive Coach and Chair for The Executive Committee Canada, a peer-to-peer mentoring program for Canadian business leaders. Ron and his wife Cindy continue to enjoy life in the Calgary area, with the added pleasure of having two grandchildren in the clan. They delight in regular travel adventures, most recently to Crete and Vienna, and find balance in their lives by combining family, fun, meaningful work, and adventure. Ron has also renewed his ties with his Air Force family by accepting the appointment of Honorary Colonel of 419 Tactical Fighter Training Squadron in Cold Lake, Alta.

Mark R. Holland, MBA, died in an Oakville, Ont., hospital of cancer on April 12, aged 49. Mark is survived by his mother, Donalee Dunbar Forbes; his father, Ken J.D. Holland; his stepfather, Donalee’s partner, Daniel Gilpin; Ken’s wife, Aldona Tusas; siblings Daniel Dunbar Holland and Alexandra Holland; and his extended family. Mark served with the Royal Canadian Navy Naval Reserve, travelling to Cambodia as River Base Commander with the UN Peacekeeping Force from 1992 to 1993, and then moved to Calgary, where he consulted in the oil-and-gas industry and taught on behalf of the Department of Defence at the University of Calgary. Mark loved basketball and played on both the Guelph Gryphons and Queen’s Golden Gales teams and toured Europe with the Canadian Armed Forces basketball team.
