The Institute for Sustainable Finance at Smith School of Business, Queen’s University is a multi-disciplinary network that brings together academia, the private sector and government to align mainstream financial markets with Canada’s transition to a prosperous, low-carbon economy.

The work of the Institute would not be possible without the support of Canada’s leaders in climate philanthropy, initial financial contributions by Canadian finance sector leaders, particularly the “Big Five” Canadian banks, and the involvement of private sector and academic experts.

With this support and engagement, ISF convenes Canada’s brightest thinkers and players in the field of sustainability and finance. ISF’s Advisory Board includes high-profile individuals from academia, finance, insurance, and civil society. Its members drive the institute’s mission, advise on industry priorities, and foster private sector collaboration. ISF’s Research Advisory Council is comprised of leading practitioners and academics, and helps shape the Institute’s research agenda.

The Institute also benefits from collaboration with academic experts at Canadian and global post-secondary institutions through the Canadian Sustainable Finance Network (CSFN) which was founded by ISF. CSFN is essential to sharing learnings and pursuing promising new areas of academic inquiry.

As well, through ISF’s Research Fellows Program, a select group of academic experts works with the institute’s research team to bridge the divide between academia and industry with timely, impactful and decision-useful research and commentary.
