Today the Institute for Sustainable Finance (ISF) is announcing a major addition to its growing research team with the appointment of Dr. Yrjö Koskinen as Director of Research. “We are extremely fortunate to bring such a respected researcher into the ISF team,” said ISF Executive Director (Academic) Dr. Thomas Walker. “ISF has seen a remarkable expansion of its academic capacity in the last year. With Dr. Koskinen’s trusted leadership, we are expecting to make the most of this incredible potential with agenda-setting work that meets the needs of today’s decision makers in business and government.”

Yrjö Koskinen is currently the BMO Professor of Sustainable and Transition Finance at the Haskayne School of Business, University of Calgary, a position he will retain. He holds an MSc in Economics from the University of Helsinki and a PhD in Management (Finance) from INSEAD. He currently serves as the Chair of the steering committee for the Canadian Sustainable Finance Network, which was founded by ISF. Prior to his academic career, he worked as an investment manager, financial journalist, and economist and head of the Securities Markets Office at the Bank of Finland.

“These are challenging times for sustainable finance," said Dr. Koskinen. "There is more demand for hard-headed empirically grounded research than ever before. ISF is uniquely positioned to fill this need. I couldn’t be more excited about the tasks ahead.”
