A Russian detour 2011
Jeremy Estabrooks,
BCom'98
profile from 2011
For Jeremy Estabrooks, a single course in Commerce by visiting professor Vladimir Popov inspired a lifelong fascination with Russian history and culture. By fourth year, Jeremy was taking Russian language courses and reading Russian literature. His interest unwavering, Jeremy passed up an offer for a job in Toronto's finance industry to attend an intensive Russian language program in Moscow.
Though he eventually completed law school and found work in New York, Jeremy convinced the firm to send him to Russia for a project with the Russian government. During his two years in the Russia, he observed the rise of Vladimir Putin and the implications of the "new" Russia both at home and abroad.
