Better late than never 2010

Douglas Peters, BCom'63
profile from 2010

Unlike most Commerce students, Douglas Peters, a future cabinet minister, did not go to university directly out of high school.

Instead, after spending a decade working in a bank, Peters moved to Kingston from Saskatchewan with his young family and began his degree. After receiving his PhD, he was hired as chief economist at TD Bank, where he worked for 27 years before embarking on a new chapter in life. In 1993, after a 16-month campaign, Douglas was elected as an MP in Scarborough East, under Jean Chretien's Liberal government.

He was consequently appointed Secretary of State for International Financial Institutions.
