White hat brigade 1988
In the years leading up to 1988, concerns over Homecoming festivities had risen to a level that threatened the existence of the event itself. "In order to prevent the coalescing of a 'critical mass' of people on University Avenue, the student societies at Queen's banded together to form the 'White Hat Brigade'," shared Andrew Durnford, BCom'89.
Commerce students formed a large portion of the group. Wearing white hats supplied by ComSoc's Shirtcomm, the volunteers walked the streets of the university district, accompanied by police officers.
