Roshan Kalra

Roshan Kalra, MBA, Law'12, and his spouse welcomed their first child in January. “His name is Devyn Nath Singh Kalra, and I'm already jealous of his full head of hair!” Roshan writes. “It has been the greatest joy of my life to be a father and I look forward to watching his future success!” Roshan and his family live in Edmonton and he practises law as a partner with SB LLP. “I was fortunate to join the firm in its infancy stages and have watched us triple in size in the last decade through strategic acquisitions and targeted recruitment,” he explains.

Judith Kirkness
Judith Kirkness (EMBA) has published her first book, The Traceability Factor, a practical guide for food and beverage manufacturers on how to implement traceability technologies. These include traceability ERP software, handheld warehouse management systems and GS1 barcoding. The book has led to speaking engagements and a new business, Traceability Matters, a consulting firm targeted at the food manufacturing industry. Katie Kopansky, BCom, ArtSci’12, was promoted to Director of Enterprise Solutions at Welltok, where she unites artificial intelligence and behavioural economics in mobile apps to help users optimize their health. Katie is based  in Denver.

Aaron Lau
Aaron Lau, AMBA, and his wife are happy to announce the arrival of their second child, Freddie, born in October 2017. The new addition joins big brother Ethan, 32 months.

Arthur Liu, MBA, and Travis Ratnam, MBA, founders of edtech-provider Knowledgehook, partnered with the Ontario Ministry of Education in May 2020, at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, to deploy the company’s remote-learning platform across all 72 school districts in the province. The platform, called Knowledgehook Open Access, helped students from grades 3 through 10 to continue their math education while at home.

Travis Ratnam, MBA, with Arthur Lui, MBA’11
Travis Ratnam, MBA, co-founder, with Arthur Lui, MBA’11, of Canadian EdTech start-up Knowledgehook, received Google’s Game Changer Award at the tech giant’s annual Demo Day in Silicon Valley on May 4. Knowledgehook helps math teachers adapt their lessons for optimal learning after reviewing predictive insights that the company's software generates for each student. Craig MacTavish
Craig MacTavish (EMBA) was appointed General Manager of the Edmonton Oilers in April. A former Oilers Head Coach (2000 to 2009), Craig returned to the club last summer as Senior Vice President of Hockey Operations. As a player, Craig logged 701 career games with the Oilers and was the seventh captain in the franchise’s history.

Craig MacTavish (EMBA) has joined the Edmonton Oilers as Vice-President, Hockey Operations. This is a return to the Oilers for Craig; he was the team’s head coach in 2008-09. Most recently, he was Head Coach of the Chicago Wolves. Craig was profiled in issue #1-2012 of the Queen’s Alumni Review.

Jeff Magnusson, EMBA, was named one of Vancouver’s “Forty Under Forty” for 2016 by Business Vancouver, which cited Jeff’s entrepreneurial prowess in having launched two successful start-ups to date.
