Michael Stein (BCom) moved back to Moscow in December 2010 to join Otkritie Investment Bank. His job is to help the firm build relationships in Russia with both institutional and hedge fund investors.

Brian Thiessen, BCom, shared a number of recent highlights with us. He was named managing partner of the Calgary office of Osler, Hoskin & Harcourt LLP and appointed as Queen’s Counsel (QC) by the government of Alberta. In 2020, Brian was also recognized with the Citizen of the Year award from Calgary city council for his work on diversity and engagement as chair of the Calgary Police Commission from 2015 to 2019.

Richard Seres (BCom, CQEMBA) has left Kingston after nine years and headed west with his wife Mary, Artsci’08, and their daughter Virginia, 8. Rich, former Executive Director for Marketing and Communications at Queen’s, has been named VP Marketing at Vancity, Canada’s largest credit union. While in Kingston the Seres certainly strengthened their Queen’s ties, Rich completing his Cornell-Queen’s Executive MBA program this year and Mary completing her BA in English.

Lorraine Chan (BCom) passed away on April 22, 2014, aged 42, in Calgary, Alta. After a six-month fight with cancer, she spent her final days at peace, surrounded by family and friends. Lorraine died with no fear or regrets, having lived her life to the fullest. She will be remembered for her intelligence, strength, independence and directness, as well as for her generosity, compassion, and great (if sometimes warped) sense of humour.

Sharon Parker (MBA, BA’86) is excited to announce that she has branched out on her own after working with the federal government and providing many years of consulting with Accenture. Sharon is now a faculty member at Queen’s Industrial Relations Centre, teaching change management and coaching executive teams to assess and improve their leadership and change management effectiveness (her specialty). She is commuting from Manotick, near Ottawa, is married to Mike Richardson, and has two children, Parker (14) and Kelsey (12), both “future Queen’s students.”
