Queen's Roundtable for Healthcare Reform 2013

Report — August 01, 2013

On June 12, 2013, in advance of the first Queen’s Health Policy Change Conference: Toward a Canadian Healthcare Strategy, over 40 Canadian healthcare leaders, as well as international speakers from the forthcoming conference gathered in Toronto to discuss ways forward for healthcare reform. Organized jointly by the Queen’s University Faculty of Health Sciences, School of Policy Studies and The Monieson Centre for Business Research in Healthcare at Queen’s School of Business, the Queen’s Roundtable for Healthcare Reform provided a forum to discuss this critical issue.

The discussion first tested the premise that broadly speaking there is a consensus on many of the issues to be tackled in Canadian healthcare. The group then reviewed obstacles to reform and looked at next steps to drive the agenda forward. Dr. Richard Reznick, Dean of Health Sciences at Queen’s University hosted the dinner, and Dr. Scott Carson, Director of The Monieson Centre for Business Research in Healthcare, moderated the discussion. This document provides a summary of the discourse.
