Laura Murphy (MBA) married Michael Flewelling in July, surrounded by family and friends, including some of Laura’s MBA classmates. She was recently promoted to branch manager at an RBC branch in Oakville, ON. Michael is continuing his education at the University of Toronto-Mississauga.

Ian Macdonald, BCom, the president of Old Tomorrow Ltd., announced in May 2018 that his Toronto-based craft brewery had purchased Double Trouble Brewing, an Ontario maker of craft beer sold under brands such as Hops & Robbers IPA. Ian also launched a new company, United Craft, that will manage both Old Tomorrowâs and Double Troubleâs brand portfolios. Ian tells us that he has also launched a cider, called Eden Grove cider. Ian founded Old Tomorrow in 2014 with his mother, Pat Macdonald (pictured above with Ian).

Adrian E. Martinez, EMBAA, writes that in 2018 he left HSBC after working for the financial services company for 24 years. “I'm now heavily involved in the fintech space through a number of advisory activities. In addition, I am working with Triphammer Ventures,” he says. “Lastly, I recently joined Charles Towne Holdings, an investment banking firm, as managing director, financial technology. I'm always on the lookout for exciting new ventures and companies looking to grow.”

Darryl McKenzie (AMBA) was named CEO of the YMCA of Oakville, ON, in a unanimous decision by the Board in December. The Oakville YMCA has 300 full- and part-time employees, more than 300 volunteers and approximately 8,000 members.

Carisa Miklusak (EMBA) launched her new venture project more than 10 months ago and is happy to report that the business is profitable and in full swing. It focuses on both traditional executive leadership and business development consulting, as well as social media and mobile marketing. While she operates independently on the majority of projects, she also co-founded a second firm, SoMedios.

Michiko Ozaki, BCom, shares that after graduating from Smith, she returned to her home country of Japan and started working in asset management. She has spent the last 12 years in equity investment, eight of those in her current job as a portfolio manager with JP Morgan Asset Management. Michiko and her husband, Kento, Artsci’09, met during their frosh year at Queen’s. They married in 2013 and have two children.
