Sue Fletcher, BCom, died on Sept. 18, 2020, of cancer at age 69. After graduating, Sue became a certified management accountant. During her career, she worked both for corporations and as a consultant. Outside of work, she was a hobby stencil artist, gardener and philanthropist. Predeceased by her husband, Robert Waller, Sue is survived by her two stepchildren, Shannon and Julia; and four grandchildren.

David Wright Hylton (MBA) died peacefully in May at Vancouver General Hospital. Born in Vancouver, David spent his primary years in Montreal. Between graduating from St. Francis Xavier University and coming to QSB for his MBA, he spent three years, 1968-71, as a Captain with the Canadian Armed Forces. His subsequent career pursuits included stints at RBC Dominion Securities, Metropolitan Toronto, TD/Canada Trust, and Export Development Canada. In 2000, David relocated to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, as the Senior Advisor and Credit Consultant for the Saudi Export Program. In 2004, he returned to Canada and a post with SNC Lavalin as VP Project Financing. David loved solitude, his newspaper, wine, the stock market, cigars, fishing, family and close friends.

Harry Keays (BCom) died Mar. 15, in Smiths Falls, Ont., aged 63. Predeceased by his son Kevin, he is survived by Barbara, his wife of 40 years, his son Derrick (Chantal), and his sisters- and brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews.

Jim Leech, MBA’73, was awarded the Distinguished Service Award from Queen’s. The award recognizes individuals who have made the university a better place through their extraordinary contributions. Jim served as chancellor of Queen’s from 2014-2021. He is also a former trustee and chair of the University Council. He continues to sit on the advisory board for the Institute for Sustainable Finance at Smith.

Jim Leech, MBA, has had his term as chancellor of Queen’s University extended for an additional year, to the end of June 2021. Queen’s University Council members voted to extend the appointment in April in order to ensure continuity for the incoming university principal, Patrick Deane, who takes over from the current principal, Daniel Woolf, on July 1. The chancellor is the university’s highest officer and serves as ceremonial head of the school as well as chairperson of the university council and ex-officio member of the Board of Trustees and its committees. Jim has served as chancellor since 2014.

Jim Leech, MBA, was recognized for his philanthropy, receiving the Outstanding Volunteer Award from the Greater Toronto chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals on Nov. 21, 2018. Since retiring as CEO of the Ontario Teachersâ Pension Plan five years ago, Jim has focused on helping others. He became the 14th chancellor of Queenâs (a volunteer position) in July 2014. He is board chair for the Toronto General & Western Hospital Foundation and successfully led its $1-billion fundraising campaign. He was also part of an expedition that hiked to the magnetic North Pole in 2014, raising more than $2 million for the True Patriot Love Foundation in support of wounded Canadian veterans.

Jim Leech, MBA, was inducted to the Royal Military College of Canada’s Wall of Honour, in recognition of his achievements in academia, business and volunteerism. A member of RMC’s class of 1968, Jim is one of only 27 outstanding alumni of Canada’s military academies to receive this honour. Chancellor Leech received acclaim both as an athlete and student leader during his years at RMC. After graduating, he spent most of his active service as a Signals Officer with the Royal 22e Régiment
in Germany. Following his release from the military, he completed his Queen’s MBA, then pursued a career in financial services, energy, and real estate before joining the Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan, rising to the position of CEO. Following his 2014 retirement, he was installed as the 14th Chancellor of Queen’s University in November of the same year. He was reappointed for a second three-year term in November 2016.

Ian V.B. Nordheimer, BCom, LLB'76, is now a judge of the Court of Appeal for Ontario. He was appointed by the Minister of Justice, Jody Wilson-Raybould, in September 2017. Ian spent 18 years as a judge of Toronto’s Superior Court of Justice, including as Administrative Judge of the Divisional Court. He’s known as an expert in many areas of law, including class actions and criminal law, and has presided over a number of significant trials, including notable murder cases.

Bill Wilson (BCom) received the 2014 Coulter Osborne Award from the Waterloo Law Association, in recognition of both his legal work and his community leadership. Bill has been a local Crown prosecutor in the Waterloo, Ont., region for 35 years. His community work includes volunteering with Big Brothers and working with the local crime-prevention council.
