Jim Keohane, MBA, has joined the board of directors at the Alberta Investment Management Corporation for a three-year term. Jim was president and CEO of the Healthcare of Ontario Pension Plan from 2011 until he retired in March 2020.

Bob Murison (BCom) has family news. His daughter Lisa, a Queen’s Bandsie, graduated this spring with an Hon. BA, with distinction, and is now at Western doing a Master’s degree in Speech Pathology. Younger daughter Leanne finished her second PHE year at Queen’s, majoring in Developmental Studies, and is now in Scotland for her third-year studies on an international exchange. “Like their dad, they both love Queen’s,” Bob says.

Lesley Morison (BCom) died Oct.19 in Toronto, with family and friends close by. Predeceased by her mother Lesley and her husband Philip J.B. Heath, LLB’81, Lesley leaves her children Geoffrey, Jacqueline and Jamie Heath, sisters Michel, Arts’73, and Kathy, BCom’89, brother Jamie, father Arthur and step-mother Annley. After graduation, Lesley articled with Coopers and Lybrand in Toronto. With her CA designation, she joined the Bank of Montreal, where she was a corporate banker until her retirement due to illness. She was a founding board member of the Pink Tulip Foundation and was responsible for all its financial aspects.

Gord Nixon
Gord Nixon, BCom, LLD’03, received the QUAA Alumni Achievement Award, the highest honour bestowed by the Alumni Association. The Chair of the Queen’s Initiative Campaign and former Royal Bank of Canada CEO was recognized for his impressive career and dedication to Queen’s.

RBC CEO and QSB Advisory Board member Gord Nixon (BCom’79, LLD’03) was invested in the Order of Canada on Sept. 3 for his contributions to banking in Canada, voluntarism and philanthropy. Gord is also a member of the Order of Ontario. After graduation, he joined Dominion Securities in Toronto. He worked his way up through investment banking and has been the CEO of Canada’s largest bank since August 2001. His community involvement has included service as chair of MaRS (a vibrant innovation hub in Toronto), cochair of the Toronto Region Immigrant Employment Council, chair of Queen’s recent Capital Campaign, and member of the boards of Toronto’s Hospital for Sick Children and the International Monetary Conference.

Gerald Walter Rose
Gerald Walter Rose (MBA), PEng, passed away peacefully Feb. 18 in Comox, BC. Gerry was a proud military officer (Major, retired), an accomplished outdoorsman, and a loving family man. He is survived by his wife Linda, children Michelle (Michael) and Gregory (Karima), and three grandchildren.

Marabeth Sharp, BCom, died on Feb. 22 in Sault Ste. Marie, Ont., at age 63. After graduating, Marabeth began a career in accounting, but stepped away once her daughter Laura was born. Marabeth used her accounting skills as a board member and treasurer of the Art Gallery of Algoma and as a board member, treasurer and president of the YMCA. She is survived by her husband, Daniel, and her children Laura and Michael.

Victoria Steele, BCom’79, is excited to share she has obtained her Certified Management Consultant (CMC) designation. Based in Ottawa, Victoria says, “I continue to consult in arts and non-profit management, teach part-time with Sprott School of Business at Carleton and lead the bilingual online Contemporary Management of Arts and Culture program at the University of New Brunswick.”

Wayne A. Waters
Wayne A. Waters (BCom) passed away peacefully at home in Brampton, ON, on March 2 after a five-month battle with cancer. He leaves his wife of 29 years, Patricia (Patty) Maloney, Com’81, and daughters Leigh, NSc’08, and Amanda, Ed’11. Wayne had been a very active volunteer in Brampton for many years, recently serving a term as Board of Trade President (2006-7). At his passing, the Brampton Guardian reported city-wide mourning for the loss of a committed “community leader” and listed the many groups to which Wayne had devoted himself in Brampton and the GTA.
