When Atul Chandra, MBA’90, became the CFO at HomeEquity Bank in 2016, the company’s income was less than $12 million. Fast-forward to 2022 and the culture of fiscal and regulatory responsibility that he created propelled the bank to earn income over $77 million. It’s one of the reasons he earned a shout-out in the Globe and Mail’s Best Executive Awards. His achievements also include leading the bank’s first-in-Canada sale of reverse mortgages to investors.

Charles Dowdall, MBA, BCom’83, became executive director for the Prince Edward County Affordable Housing Corporation in Prince Edward County, Ont., in July 2020. Chuck tells us that he and his wife, Lauranna, moved to Kingston in 2016 and regularly enjoy walking through the Queen’s campus.

Blair Look, BCom, with his wife and three children, recently returned to Canada after 25 years living and working abroad (primarily in Dubai, UAE) and have settled in Victoria, B.C.

Michael Morris, MBA’90, died on Jan. 16 in Cambridge, Ont. He was 74. Michael was called to the bar in 1978 and spent his career practising law. In the middle of his career, Michael began teaching at the University of New Brunswick. More recently, he taught at Conestoga College. Michael loved fly fishing and later in life developed an interest in plants and gardening, helping his wife turn their backyard into an oasis. He is survived by his wife, Cheryl, his daughter and two grandchildren.

Alexander F.G. Rueben (MBA), retired after more than 35 years of service in the Canadian Armed Forces, has started a company focused on providing strategic human resource and capital asset solutions to BC’s resource and industrial marine sectors. Alex chaired BC’s Resource Training Organization and is one of the co-founders of the Industrial Marine Training and Applied Research Facility being built in Victoria, where he resides with his partner, Natalka Rueben, BEd’90, and their three daughters.

William J.F. Simpson, MBA, died on Aug. 29, 2017 at his home on Salt Spring Island, BC. He is survived by his wife Jill; children Quentin and Clorisa; and mother Barbara. Bill was a professional engineer practising independently in the area of structural and seismic design throughout the Gulf Islands and Vancouver Island.
