Darin H. (Bass) Bassin (BCom) married Anne Waterman, Senior VP at Michael Kors, on July 17 at the Four Seasons restaurant in New York City. Bass is a vice president and senior counsel for mergers and acquisitions at CBS in New York. After graduating from Queen’s, he received a law degree and an MBA from UBC, Vancouver.

Graham Bennett, MBA, let us know that he has moved from North Carolina to Southsea on the U.K.’s south coast. He continues to remotely manage business and professional-services contracts for Avaya Inc. He is excited to be working in the U.K. and can be contacted at bennettgs@aol.com.

Meghan Brown, MBA, was chosen as the 2019 recipient of the Award for Excellence in Investor Relations by the Canadian Investor Relations Institute (CIRI). Meghan has been a significant contributor to CIRI as past chair of the board and B.C. chapter executive. She is vice-president of investor relations for Leagold Mining Corp.

Mark Deep (BCom) recently joined The Marketing Store Worldwide as Senior Vice President and Managing Partner, responsible for leading the customer relationship marketing and loyalty practice for North America. He lives with his family in Markham and would be happy to hear from friends and classmates from Queen’s through Facebook or LinkedIn.

Jeswant Gill (MBA) has been appointed Vice President and Executive Vice President of the industrial segment of Kennametal Inc., with global responsibility for this segment, which generates approximately 55% of the company’s revenues. Kennametal, headquartered in Latrobe, PA, is an industrial technology leader that employs 14,000 employees worldwide, generating nearly $3 billion in sales.

Peter Teti (BCom) has been promoted to Managing Director of Rothschild (Canada) Inc. He has been with the financial services company since 2002 and is based in its Toronto office.

Dave Jackson
Dave Jackson, BCom’91, president of Hydropool, Canada’s largest hot tub and swim-spa manufacturer, has sold the company to California-based Jacuzzi. Hydropool started in Toronto in the 1970s and Dave bought into it in 1995, expanding its markets across Canada, the U.S. and Europe. Under Jacuzzi’s ownership, Dave remains president of Hydropool.

Steven Major, BCom, told us that he and his wife, Jenn, Artsci’91, are the incoming chairs of the 71st Canadian Energy Executive Association board of directors, whose tenets are networking and advocacy for Canadian energy, and charitable giving. They will assume their new roles on Sept. 1.

Cheryl Susan McWatters
Cheryl Susan McWatters (PhD, MBA’88, Artsci’77) has been appointed the inaugural Father Edgar Thivierge Chair in Business History at the Telfer School of Management, University of Ottawa. She is also cross-appointed to the Department of History. Her teaching and research focus on the global context of business and the emergence of capitalism from the 15th century to the modern era. In March, she was appointed to France’s Conseil d’Administration du Réseau français des instituts d’études avancées. She and her husband, John MacDiarmid (Sc’78, MSc’87), endowed a visiting fellowship in honour of Cheryl’s parents at Queen’s University Archives to enable researchers to make use of collections there.
