Social entrepreneurial approaches have been touted as a panacea for persistent challenges of poverty, inequality, and environmental degradation. As part of her Master of Environmental Studies degree, Joanne spent seven months in Cape Town, South Africa, exploring the potential of social entrepreneurship organizations (SEO) as a mechanism to address obstinate inequality. Grounded in the recycling sector, this qualitative research provides insights on the opportunities and limitations of social entrepreneurial approaches. Join the Brown Bag Lunch discussion to learn more about conducting field research in Africa, and social entrepreneurship within the South African context.
