Research grants hit all-time high

Issue: 

The results of the annual Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC) grant competition are in and seven Queen’s School of Business faculty have been awarded $740,000 to fund studies on the following topics:

  • Kee-Hong Bae – Stock market efficiency;
  • Julian Barling – Two grants: one on the development of leadership, the other on transformational leadership and humility;
  • Yolande Chan – Three grants: 1) Revitalizing rural economies by mobilizing academic knowledge; 2) Understanding institutional influences on cancer care accessibility; and 3) Revitalizing rural economies through community university partnerships;
  • Tina Dacin – Understanding resource dynamics in social entrepreneurship;
  • Jane Webster (with Peggy Cunningham) – Implementing environmental responsibility in organizations; and,
  • Sandy Staples – Managing diversity in teams through web technologies.

Graduate students also fared well: Ingrid Chadwick and Samir Saadi each received a Canada Graduate Scholarship, and Yang Ni was awarded an SSHRC grant. Eight others received Ontario Graduate Scholarships: David Barr, Alyson Byrne, Ingrid Chadwick, Lindsay McShane, Rasha Nasra, Tang Ni, Mitch Stein, and Sean Tucker.
