David Walker, BCom, died unexpectedly on August 30, at the age of 62. He was the Executive Director of the Rideau Waterway Land Trust, and “passed away doing what he loved best — living life to the fullest, enjoying friendship and the outdoors while helping make the earth a better place for all,” his family reports. He is survived by his wife Sharon (Foster); mother, Muriel; daughter, Allison Hartley (Lee); and four grandchildren.

W. Brian West, MBA’76, BSc(Eng)’72, tells us he’s been retired for 15 years, following a 40-year career in the global mining industry. Brian lives in Bobcaygeon, Ont., and enjoys travelling, gardening and relaxing at home, as well as spending time with eight grandchildren. He’s looking forward to travelling once the COVID pandemic eases. He plans to start by travelling around the Pacific and Europe. A road trip across Canada is also a possibility.

Richard West, MBA, BSc’73, recently retired from the York Region District School Board, a second career that followed his original one in finance. He reports he’s enjoying his new stage in life.

Ron White, BCom, senior vice-president and chief financial officer at Fidelity Clearing Canada, retired after a 42-year career in public accounting, banking and brokerage. Ron says he particularly enjoyed building the businesses of Citibank Canada (GCB Division), E*Trade Canada and Fidelity Clearing Canada. Ron was a hockey and a golf Gael and continued to hone his golf game after graduation. A highlight was participating in the World Club Championship, in South Korea, where Ron says he received his 15 minutes of fame on the Golf Channel. He and his wife, Diana, plan to volunteer and travel to far and away places. Ron is looking forward to seeing other alumni at his 45th-year Homecoming in 2021.

Gene Wolski, MBA, retired three years ago from his career in the financial services industry. Gene and Alice, his wife of 27 years, are looking forward to returning to Queen's again this fall for his class’s 40th-anniversary reunion at Homecoming, and a visit with their son, Adam, who will be enrolled in the Master of International Business program at the Smith School of Business.

Keith Bennett (MBA) passed away at home on Aug. 19 in his 88th year. He is survived by his wife Helen (nee Dickinson), children Craig, Hugh (Cynthia), David (Anke), and Stephen (Sophie), and five grandchildren.

Alan N. Alsop (BCom) is set to retire on Jan. 31, 2013, after 37 years with John Deere. Alan and Janis (Haggerty) will be making their permanent residence in Bonita Springs, Florida, but plan to spend significant amounts of time with family at their home in Brooklin, ON. Email: alannalsop@gmail.com

Michael Devine, MBA, died Jan. 5 in Toronto after a long battle with cancer. He was 65. Before retiring, Michael served with the Toronto Police, and, prior to that, spent 30 years in banking with TD Bank. Michael is survived by his wife, Julie, children, Patrick (Stephanii), Noah (Jessica) and Sarah (Jeremy), and two grandsons.

John C. Eby
John C. Eby (MBA) (Arts’74) and his wife Shelley (Arts’74, Ed’74) are living in Toronto. John retired from Scotia Capital five years ago and now has a second career as a corporate director. The Ebys are co-founders of Developing Scholars, a registered Canadian charity that supports grass-roots educational initiatives in Guatemala.

H. Doug Evans
H. Doug Evans (MBA, Sc’73), President and CEO of Gulf Interstate Engineering, was elected President of the International Pipe Line & Offshore Contractors Association (IPLOCA) for 2012-2013. He was elected by the Board of Directors at the annual convention, held in Istanbul in September 2012, after having served as First Vice President (2011–2012). He is also the association’s Director of America North and Chairman of the New Technologies Committee. IPLOCA represents more than 255 key players in the on- and off-shore pipeline construction industry worldwide.
