David Wilson (BCom) continues to serve as the President and CEO of the Graduate Management Admission Council, the owner of the dreaded GMAT Exam, and is director of several companies. But his dream, he says, is that when his twoyear-old grandson, Briggs, reaches David’s age, cancer will be something that is read about in history books. “My own commitment,” he says, “is to support the Lance Armstrong Foundation.” David has raised more than $250,000 for it in the past five years with Team MBA.

David Anthony Ward (BCom) (LLB, Osgoode), QC, LSM, passed away at Toronto General Hospital on Jan.13. David was founding partner of the law firm which, since 1961, has born his name and is today known internationally as Davies Ward Phillips & Vineberg. He was an accomplished skier at the Georgian Peaks Ski Club, an avid sailor at the Royal Canadian Yacht Club, and a sports enthusiast at the Cambridge Club and the Granite Club. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends and colleagues.

Barry L. Stone (BCom) passed away suddenly at home in Ottawa on April 24, aged 69 years. A former employee of E.B. Eddy, Barry will be fondly remembered by his family and many friends.

John Gordon (MBA), Professor Emeritus and former QSB Dean, was inducted into the Kingston Business Hall of Fame in June. He was honoured for his mentorship of students at The Monieson Centre and in the MBA program.

Maurine Braun-Lal, BCom, died on Feb. 14, 2017 in hospital in Ottawa. She was 76. She is survived by her husband Din Lal; children Steven (Aine), Kieran (Denise), Dale (Tina), Anita (Rob), Sandra and Shannon (Jessica); and grandchildren.

Garry Davidson, BCom, died peacefully at the age of 75 in Guelph on July 11, after a brief illness. A childhood spent in Lanark County included an education at a one-room schoolhouse. Following his graduation from Queen’s, Garry had a long career in finance, never formally retiring. He spent 25 years at the University of Guelph and more than 20 years in personal tax and financial planning. Garry is survived by his children Stewart (Angeline Lau); Kimberly Maich (John); and Matthew (Susan Yates); and seven grandchildren.

Paul Dunlop, BCom, died in August 2016, aged 75. A former Toronto resident, he is survived by his wife Pam (Grant) and children Scott (Rachel); Carolyn (Paul-Michael); Brock (Kendra); and eight grandchildren.

David Ray Fairbairn, MBA, died on July 19 at age 82. Upon graduation, David became a stockbroker. Eventually his career led him to work in real estate and property management. He loved spending time on his family farm near Charlevoix, Que. David was a supporter of the arts and adored classical music and jazz. He played varsity hockey and football, and he coached the Queen’s women’s squash team. David is survived by his wife, Elizabeth; children Heather, John and Sarah; and his extended family.

John H.L. Hamilton, BCom, MBAâ65, died Aug. 18, 2018 at age 79. He was a chartered accountant with Thorne, Riddell & Company. He also spent 25 years with Algonquin College, first as a professor and later as dean of the business school. At retirement, he was president of Acerra Learning Inc., then a division of Algonquin, where he had remained VP of finance and administration. Throughout his career, he maintained a variety of business, public and charitable interests. John is survived by his wife, Jane, and children John and Jen Hamilton, BComâ98.

John B. Jamieson, BCom, died Aug. 4, 2018. He grew up in Moose Jaw, Sask. Friends and family remember him for his kindness and dry sense of humour. Never one to draw much attention to himself, John’s favourite Christmas gift was a donation to help people or animals. John leaves behind his wife, Anita, and children Tod, John and Eve.
